Gutter Clearing in Colchester & Stanway
Professional Gutter Cleaning Across Colchester and Essex
Keep your gutters flowing freely with professional gutter clearing in Colchester, Stanway, and surrounding areas. We use a ground-based vacuum system to remove leaves, moss, and debris safely without ladders.
Blocked gutters cause damp, damage to fascias, and water overflow that ruins walls and foundations. Regular clearing stops those problems before they start.
How We Clear Gutters
SkyVac Gutter Vacuum System
We use a professional gutter vacuum system. It's a powerful vacuum with extendable poles that reach gutters from the ground.
No ladders. No climbing. No risk.
The vacuum sucks out:
• Leaves and moss
• Silt and dirt build-up
• Bird nests and debris
• Tennis balls (you'd be surprised)
We can reach gutters up to 3 storeys high, depending on access.
Check Downpipes Are Flowing
Once gutters are clear, we check downpipes to make sure water's draining properly.
If we can access the top of the downpipe, we'll clear it from there. If not, we test water flow to make sure it's running.
Sometimes downpipes are blocked further down. If that's the case, we'll let you know, but clearing internal blockages in downpipes isn't something we do. That needs a drainage specialist.
Before and After Photos
Most customers can't see their gutters. You're taking it on trust that we've actually done the job.
We provide before and after photos on request. You'll see exactly what was in there and what it looks like now.
What We Don't Do
We're straight about what we do and don't offer.
We don't:
• Use ladders or climb onto roofs
• Repair gutters, fascias, or downpipes
• Re-seal joints or fit gutter guards
• Realign or replace broken sections
If we spot damage while we're working, we'll tell you. Then you can get a roofer or guttering specialist to fix it.
We vacuum gutters. That's it. But we do it properly.
Why Gutter Clearing Matters
Gutters aren't exciting. Most people forget about them until there's a problem.
But blocked gutters cause serious damage. Here's why clearing them matters.
Prevents Damp and Water Damage
When gutters overflow, water runs down your walls. Over time, that causes:
• Damp patches inside the house
• Damage to render and brickwork
• Staining on exterior walls
• Rotten fascias and soffits
Once damp gets into your walls, it's expensive to fix. Clearing gutters stops it happening in the first place.
Protects Foundations
Water overflowing from gutters doesn't just damage walls. It pools around the base of your house.
Over time, that water seeps into foundations. In extreme cases, it causes subsidence.
Properly functioning gutters channel water away from your property. Blocked gutters do the opposite.
Stops Fascias and Soffits Rotting
Fascias and soffits are the boards behind and under your gutters. When gutters overflow, those boards get soaked.
uPVC fascias can handle some water, but constant soaking causes them to fail.
Wooden fascias? They rot. Once they're rotten, you're looking at replacing the whole lot.
Regular gutter clearing keeps fascias dry and extends their life.
Reduces Risk of Pest Infestations
Blocked gutters are perfect nesting spots for birds, wasps, and rodents.
Moss, leaves, and standing water create a habitat. Before you know it, you've got a wasp nest in your gutter or birds nesting under the eaves.
Clear gutters don't attract pests.
Protects Your Home Insurance
Most home insurance policies require you to keep your property in a reasonable state of repair.
If blocked gutters cause damage and your insurer decides you've neglected basic maintenance, they might not pay out.
Regular gutter clearing counts as maintenance. It protects you if something goes wrong.
When to Book Gutter Clearing
Gutters need clearing at least once a year. Some properties need it twice.
After Autumn Leaf Fall
Autumn's the worst time for gutters. Leaves fall, get washed into gutters, and create blockages.
Book a gutter clear in late autumn or early winter, after most leaves have fallen. That sets you up for winter rain without overflow problems.
Before Winter
Winter brings heavy rain. If your gutters are already blocked, that rain's got nowhere to go.
Clearing gutters before winter means they're ready to handle whatever weather comes.
After a Storm
Big storms blow debris into gutters. Branches, roof tiles, moss. It all ends up in there.
If you've had a storm, it's worth getting gutters checked and cleared.
If You Notice Overflowing
If you see water pouring over the edge of your gutters when it rains, they're blocked.
Don't wait. Book a clear before the problem gets worse.
How Often Should Gutters Be Cleared?
Depends on your property.
If you've got trees nearby, gutters fill up faster. Once a year might not be enough. Twice a year's better.
If your property's in an open area with no overhanging branches, once a year's usually fine.
Most of our customers book annually. Some book twice a year in autumn and spring.
Signs Your Gutters Need Clearing
Not sure if your gutters are blocked? Here's what to look for:
• Water overflowing when it rains
• Damp patches on walls below the gutter line
• Sagging gutters (weight of debris pulling them down)
• Plants or moss growing out of gutters
• Staining on exterior walls under gutters
If you're seeing any of those, your gutters need clearing.
What Happens If You Ignore Blocked Gutters
Nothing good.
Blocked gutters don't fix themselves. The longer you leave them, the worse it gets.
Here's what happens:
• More debris builds up
• Gutters start to sag under the weight
• Brackets fail and gutters pull away from the fascia
• Water damage spreads to walls and woodwork
• Repair costs go from cheap to expensive
Clear your gutters. It's a small job that prevents big problems.

You don't need to be home. As long as we can access the gutters, we'll get it done and let you know when it's finished.
Commercial Gutter Clearing
We also clear gutters on commercial properties. Offices, shops, warehouses, industrial units.
If your gutters are accessible from the ground and within reach of our equipment, we'll clear them.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does gutter clearing take?
Most houses take 30 minutes to an hour. Bigger properties or really blocked gutters take longer.
We'll give you a time estimate when we quote.
Do I need to be home?
No. As long as we can access the gutters, we're fine.
We'll let you know when we're done.
Can you clear gutters in winter?
Yes. We work year-round as long as it's safe to do so.
Winter's actually a good time to clear gutters because you want them ready for the rain.
Will you damage my gutters?
No. The vacuum system doesn't touch the gutters. We're just removing what's inside.
If your gutters are already damaged, we'll spot it and let you know.
Can you clear gutters on a 3-storey house?
Usually, yes. Our equipment reaches up to 3 storeys depending on access.
If we can't reach safely, we'll tell you.
Do you repair gutters?
No. We only clear them.
If we spot damage, we'll let you know so you can get a roofer or guttering specialist to fix it.
What if my downpipes are blocked?
We'll clear what we can from the top. If there's a blockage deeper in the downpipe, that needs a drainage specialist with different equipment.
Can you fit gutter guards?
No. We don't fit gutter guards or mesh.
Some people swear by them, some say they cause more problems. If you want guards fitted, you'll need a roofer or guttering company.
How often should I get my gutters cleared?
At least once a year. Twice a year if you've got lots of trees nearby.
Most customers book us in autumn after the leaves have fallen.
